Erik Eggen has been writing and renewing DNR-approved Forest Stewardship Plans for private landowners in Northern and Central Minnesota since 1988 — over 35 years of hands-on experience with the exact programs your property depends on.
Erik holds a B.S. in Forest Management from the University of Montana (1988) and is a Certified Forester through the Society of American Foresters (SAF). Dear Landowner,
I'm a private consulting forester and I'd like to earn your business. If your SFIA or 2c forest management plan is coming up for renewal, I can help. Additionally, I can research cost-share funding through your county on your behalf. Cost share refunds you a portion of my fee, and since funding is first-come, first-served, acting early makes a real difference.
Beyond plan renewals, I'm also available for timber appraisals and selective harvesting. We can thin and utilize any species — big or small, live or dead — at no cost or obligation to you for the initial walkthrough. Trees only last so long before they start dying back and blowing over, and selective harvesting is simply good forest and wildlife management. The new growth that follows is critical browse and cover for deer, grouse, and other wildlife.
One common landowner concern is the mess left after a harvest. At Timberlane Forestry, we address this by chipping and hauling away tops and limbs for renewable energy use on most jobs. Where chipping isn't possible, we pile or scatter the slash to minimize the mess.
We leave the site relatively clean and walkable. However, even the best logging jobs leave some debris, which naturally decomposes and returns nutrients to the soil. We also use it for corduroy in wet areas and water bars on slopes — standard logging practices.
After any harvest, I seed the road, staging area, and skidder trails with clover to stabilize the soil, feed wildlife, and green up the area quickly. By selectively harvesting, the woods stay looking intact.
